Community Comes Together to Raise Funds for Educational Opportunities for Low-Income Families

Austin, TX – Seventy-seven runners and walkers completed the Inaugural “Deck the Halls” 5K Fun Run & Walk organized by the HATC Foundation, a non-profit subsidiary of the Housing Authority of Travis County (HATC), this past Sunday, December 9, 2018, at 8:00 AM at the Travis County Exposition Center.

Iram Leon, 38, was the first place overall male winner with a time of 00:17:45.6, followed by Daniel Miranda, 32, with a time of 00:18:06.3, and Phil Treely, 26, with a time of 00:29:20.1. Lydia Ngai, 29, was the overall female winner with a time of 00:21:18.5, followed by Gabrielle Kotkov, 30, with a time of 00:23:17.6, and Donna Lakomski, 58, with a time of 00:25:16.4. Congratulations to all the overall male and female winners!

All the funds raised will be used to empower and support the more than 2,000 low-income residents of Travis County, that are currently being assisted by HATC and are interested in pursuing a higher education, vocational training, and/or skill-building opportunities. “Through this annual 5K, the HATC Foundation wants to provide HATC residents and clients – both parents and children – with the educational opportunities they need to become self-sufficient citizens,” stated by Patrick B. Howard, HATC CEO/Executive Director.
